For one weekend in June we are going to open and welcome visitors to what is the only working waterpowered corn mill in Worcestershire. A clash of dates means we are unable to join the national Open Mills Weekend in May so we are opening this weekend in June instead
Admission and parking will be free but there will be several opportunities to donate towards the ongoing maintenance of this old example of renewable energy.
We have a potentially expensive project in hand. We need to replace the wooden great spur gear that is badly effected by decay and woodworm as you can see from our pictue
. The replacement needs to be made in traditional materials using traditional methods as far as possible. We do not yet have an exact estimate of the cost but it will be several thousand pounds.
Volunteers will be on hand to provide guided tours and answer questions about the mill.
Refreshments wil be available on both days and there will be a number of period vehicles on show.
One pair of millstones wil be driven by a stationery engine, and the wheel will be turning under water power.
